Founder of Wildlife Habitat Conservancy David Kidd has had a long fascination with coyotes. As a hobby, Kidd has both collected and paid to collect scientific research studies on all aspects of coyotes’ lives. WHC has agreed to post these studies as its contribution to a better understanding of this specific animal as part of the WHC educational mission.
This compendium of research studies is unbiased. Its goal is to include any study that is written up. The enclosed studies may be published, or presented in symposia, or just submitted as part of an academic requirement. Contained herein are studies on habits, diet, diseases, mating and reproductive data, habitat and ranging patterns, and even how to better kill coyotes, or, on the contrary, how to better protect them. The studies are sorted by year first, then into several subgroups by subject matter.
What is clear is that the growing human population and the more rapidly growing coyote population are on a collision course that will become a major issue in the coming decades. That collision has already occurred in many areas. Coyotes are now in every province and every state and county, and every city in North America. WHC wants to offer an unbiased educational library where research can be conducted to learn more about this upcoming issue.
What is surprising is that a comprehensive scientific research library does not already exist for every mammal in North America. Instead, what has evolved on paper and on online are scores of smaller libraries, mostly created by individual universities publishing the studies conducted by their faculty and students. It is hoped that this E-library will inspire some students to adopt other mammals and create similar libraries for all of the mammals of North America where all of the smaller libraries are combined into one resource center. Such libraries will be of great benefit to future researchers.
This library will always be a work-in-progress. Please forward any ideas or additional studies or links to studies to David Kidd at WHC at: dkidd@tm.org
This section includes copies of or links to published or presented information and scientific studies about all aspects of coyotes and their interactions with other species. Research studies are organized by publication year and sorted into general categories. The goal of this web site is to post every research study on Coyotes that can be identified. Please help us if you have information we need.
